I often wondered if there ever was a sad song in Punjabi music. Punjabis dance at weddings and funerals with equal gusto. Jags used to say, 'Give a Punjabi a couple of drinks and he would dance to the noise of a generator!'

Fatso epitomised everything that was Punjabi. Many times Jags and I had to physically restrain him from breaking into a jig every time our mobiles rang.

And Jags - his happiest tunes would resemble the siren of an ambulance. No matter how happy his song was (i.e., happy according to him because Fatso and I could not understand a single word that was sung), we would break into tears.

'Total assholes, imbeciles, no idea of music,' Jags used to say. 'You Bong, you guys are supposed to be cultured but staying with that truck driver, you are ruining your senses.'

I didn't want to remind him that he too stayed with the same truck driver.
