Life's unfair - PAST LIFE

'Yeah, life's unfair,' said Jags.

Then my eyes fell on Jags's T-shirt which proudly carried the quote:

'
Life's unfair.
So many girls,
So little time.'

'Jags, you nerd, don't you have to go to work today?'

'Nope, dude, decided you need some solid encouragement, so bunked today, going to drop you off to your college. Did you get to talk to Fatso?'

'Nope, thought of calling him though,' I said.

'So, what stopped you?' Jags asked, taking a bite of my sandwich. 'Nice, huh.'

'What?' I asked absent mindedly. 'The sandwich?'

'Nope, the girl,' Jags smiled. That's another thing about Jags, he never forgets.

'Which girl?' I asked as innocently as possible.

'Which girl, huh? You don't know what I am talking about?' Jags teased.

'Listen ah, I have got my first class today, I have never spoken to more than two people together in my entire life, now I have to lecture an entire class of juveniles. I am bloody nervous, so if you are going to bug me, you have chosen a filthy time.'

'Cool it, bugger, just wanted to help.'

'Help and you? That sure would be a unique combination,' I laughed.

Jags managed a scowl feigning indignation, as he finished off with the rest of my breakfast.

PAST LIFE

Later she told me that she was a prostitute in that lifetime, but she had not relayed that information because she was embarrassed by it. Apparently, while hypnotized, Catherine could censor some of the memories she transmitted back to me.

I impulsively asked her if I was present in any of her lifetimes. I was curious about my role, if any, in her remembrances. She responded quickly.

"You are my teacher. You teach us from books. You're wearing a white dress [toga] with gold trim.... Your name is Diogenes. You teach us symbols, triangles. You are very wise, but I don't understand. The year is 1568 B.C."

The first session had ended. Even more amazing ones were yet to come.

Diogenes

It was the famous Greek philosopher and cynic Diogenes who went around the streets of Athens, lantern in hand, looking for an honest man.

This was over two thousand years ago, but I presume that Diogenes would have as little success in his search today. Lying seems to be an integral weakness of mortal character - I doubt that a single human being would be so brash as to claim that he [or she] has never in his [her] life told at least a partial untruth. Indeed, one philologist goes so far as to theorize that language must have been invented for the sole purpose of deception. Perhaps so. It is  certainly true that animals seem somewhat more trustworthy than humans, maybe because they are less gifted mentally.
