বহু বছৰ আগতে মই যেতিয়া Cotton College কটন কলেজত P.U. Science পঢ়িছিলোঁ (I was first boy), Pre-University Science (P.U. Sc.) পৰীক্ষাত first হলে P.U. Sc. first rank holder was eligible for automatic admission to ভাৰতৰ যিকোনো I.I.T. - I got first rank in P.U. Science with record marks (difference in marks with the second rank holder was about 60 marks!) - but instead of going to any I.I.T., I studied B.Sc. Physics Honours at St. Stephen's College (which was an all-male college at that time); unlike now, our physics honours classes and subsidiary chemistry and history of science classes were held in Delhi University and taught by Delhi University professors - these classes were co-ed classes with a few girl students from some other colleges on the university campus. (I never spoke to any of these sweet female classmates.)

Later, I studied and did research in U.S.A. at UIUC (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA; as a Ph.D. student in the department of physiology and biophysics) and studied mathematics as M.S. student at UIC (University of Chicago, USA; the department of mathematics, statistics, and computer science); I was granted university scholarships by both of these top U.S. universities to whom I will remain eternally grateful.
