NIOS, IGNOU ON TV

HISTORY OF SCIENCE 

I neglected to mention in any of My previous blog posts on My college and university days as a B.Sc. Physics Honours student at St. Stephen's College (it was then a men's college, not co-ed) under Delhi University (physics honours classes were held in the university jointly with Hindu College boys and three or four girls; our chemistry subsidiary classes were also held in the university jointly with boys and three or four girls from another college whose name I do not remember - Hans Raj College? Kirori Mal College? Ramjas College? - I never spoke to any of My few chooridar-kameez-wearing sweet young girl classmates from Hindu College (though all the sweet young girls raised their hands to vote for Me for Physics Class Librarian; I had won in that memorable class voting) that we had delightful HISTORY OF SCIENCE classes held jointly with boys and a few girls of another college - I don't know which college that was. I remember that Professor Gopal (I think that was his name) was a wonderful teacher who taught us the history of biology (there was pin-drop silence when he gave his delightful lectures - he always wrote the outline of his talk on the big wide blackboard BEFORE his class began) and a south Indian physics professor taught us the history of physical sciences - he spoke very fast - I enjoyed his classes which were also very interesting - I do not remember that there was any girl classmate in this class.

UIUC and UIC 

At the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), U.S.A., Professor Govidjee (who was Professor of Biophysics and Chairman of Graduate Admissions Committee, UIUC Department of Physiology and Biophysics) and My Ph. D. research guide Professor Howard S. Ducoff (who was Professor of Physiology and Biophysics and of Bioengineering at UIUC) and other faculty members and staff of UIUC were very kind with Me. And I also received similar kindness from faculty and staff of the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) where I studied M.S. in the Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science. Both UIUC and UIC gave Me university scholarships. However, I left despite their overwhelming kindness because I secretly realized (but told no one) that I had solved everything in a flash in Bombay ten years before! (I had a sensational strange all-night trance in My hostel room in UIUC graduate dormitory.) No s. honeytrap could trap Me in Bombay (Mumbai), UIUC, UIC. (I never had a single f. "girlfriend" in India and America. I never did pre-m. f. in India or America.)

LEARNING NEW WORDS 

Study:

1. WORD POWER MADE EASY by Norman Lewis

2. INSTANT VOCABULARY by Ida Ehrlich (a very interesting and very easy method is used in this entertaining book - using KEYS to learn new words)

3. INSTANT VOCABULARY by Amitav Sengupta, University of California, M.B.D. Publishers Distributors, 229, Bhola Nath Nagar, Shahdara, Delhi-110032. [I was surprised that this book and INSTANT VOCABULARY by Ida Ehrlich are identical except the names of the two authors. I think the author Ida Ehrlich - this could be a pen name - and the smart Indian publisher decided to reprint the book in India using the name of an Indian as author who is stated to be a professor at an American University which would appeal to Indian students and Indian guardians - choosing a Bengali name as author since Bongs are generally regarded as "intellectuals", and University of California (instead of a strange name like Rutgers etc.) because California is a popular name in India and all Indians know that California is in the United States and so University of California is an American university, without having to add redundant U.S.A. after University of California! ... (The printed price of the book when I bought it from a local bookshop/book store: Rs. 125.) There is another possibility - actually, I am very sorry I first thought of that possibility as soon as I saw that these two books are identical except for the names of the two authors - it was a pirated edition ! - but on second thought, I realized that the copyright must have ended. - G]

Buy excellent inexpensive guide books, study, practise/practice at home, watch YouTube tutorial videos, attend your school and college classes to listen to your sirs and ma'ams (if you are a student in a school or college). Don't waste your time and your money on useless commercial "coaching centres" - you need to give yourself time to study and practise/practice at home. Just going to a "coaching center" will not help you - unless the secret motive is to have a good time with boyfriends and girlfriends which would be cheating your guardians out of their money. Peter is the world's biggest cheat but you can easily beat him and his cheating clones.
