I notice that the spelling is not Downtown but Downton. I think the shorter abbreviation v. (for versus) is becoming as popular as the longer abbreviation vs. (I use the abbreviations v. and s. quite a lot in My BLOGGER blog posts because of My squeamish sense of decency, where v. does not mean versus but something else. Every reader knows what I mean by s. because the text will make it clear what I mean by s.)

I learned International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) on My own when I was in school and I have been practising/practicing standard IPA pronunciation ever since. I have the standard Daniel Jones pronouncing dictionary. I rely on the Appendix on pronunciation of personal names in Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary of Current English edited by A.S. Hornby for the pronunciation of British and American personal names whose pronunciations I am not sure about. When I was in college, I bought English LP records from the Linguaphone Institute (Bombay/Mumbai) to learn Received Pronunciation (RP). I have a nice dictionary of pronunciation of English words by Norman Lewis, published by GOYLSaab, Delhi, which uses a simple pronunciation system.

I learned from an interesting book by late Professor Norman Lewis that Americans secretly admire and envy British English pronunciation. I pronounce the English words in IPA so that My English sounds are in "Universal Standard Pronunciation" which everyone in the Universe can understand and enjoy listening to and admire (and "love", in a good and pure sense). 

I record My voice with My 3G Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 wav. (finding sudden use for My 3G Samsung tablet in these days of 4G). I wonder if "Wavel" I find mentioned in the entertaining YouTube video may have some connection / connexion with My Samsung tablet "wav." app voice recordings I now make for My Anchor podcast episodes. What does wav. mean?

I do not use FAKE British or American accents unlike many Indians do after a brief or long stay in UK or the United States. Two years of stay in America has not affected My standard IPA pronunciation one jot.
