* I was a Ph.D. research student in the department of physiology and biophysics at UIUC, Urbana, and an M.S. math student in the department of mathematics, statistics, and computer science at UIC, Chicago; both UIUC and UIC, top U.S. universities, gave Me university scholarships. I am profoundly grateful to UIUC (the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) and UIC (University of Illinois at Chicago). (Again, I am stating facts, and not trying to show off.)

By the way, I wrote a fantastic real-life (seemingly amusing) story entitled CYNTHIA (based on My very strange experience at UIUC) which was published in melange (The Sentinel Sunday magazine, which provided very amusing illustrative sketches), which I later published online; I think it is one of the supreme short stories of the world. Many years ago, when I was in college, I wrote from Gauhati [Guwahati], Assam, India, to Peter Funk, son of the late Dr. Wilfred Funk, of Reader's Digest, New York:

I would like to read all the books that your father has written. I have two of them with me: SIX WEEKS TO WORDS OF POWER, and 30 DAYS TO A MORE POWERFUL VOCABULARY written in collaboration with his friend Norman Lewis. I have tried hard to obtain all the books of Wilfred Funk and of Norman Lewis, but I have not succeeded.

UPSIDE DOWN 

In his "Philosophical Dictionary", Voltaire describes the crucified Jesus as hanging vertically in the usual way (that is, with his head up, legs down) but Peter as hanging vertically in upside down position (that is, with his legs up, head down) - as in the well-known yoga "shirshasan" pose. (Jesus and Peter were both revived afterwards, I am sure. - G)
