** Zail Singh probably had little or no formal education, although Google sources do not give details, perhaps out of politeness. Lots of very funny jokes are manufactured in India about Singh Punjabis who are regarded as guys who have strong physique but are simpletons.
A joke I heard long ago about the famous Punjabi runner Milkha Singh, who won an Olympic medal many years ago:
Milkha Singh was sitting on a chair on the deck of a ship floating on the sea. An Englishman asked him in a friendly tone:
"Relaxing?"
"No, Sir - Milkha Singh," he replied.
