MAGIC MANTRA

THE GREAT TEACHER Professor Harry Shefter, who was Professor of English at New York University, gave this WONDERFUL ADVICE in one of his truly PRACTICAL BOOKS ON ENGLISH COMPOSITION, published by Washington Square Press/Pocket Books/Simon & Schuster: PREPARE WELL AND YOU WILL SPEAK WELL! The SAME wonderful advice is true for EVERY exam, for EVERY competition in life, literal or metaphoric. To succeed in life's many exams, literal or metaphoric, One MUST prepare well. THAT is the MAGIC mantra: PREPARE WELL! (I WOULD ALSO ADD: "BE ETHICAL. DON'T CHEAT." I am A Firm Believer in absolute honesty. However, I know that unfortunately there is A SHOCKING DIFFERENCE between One and one.)

WHY MATHEMATICS IS IMPORTANT

The ONLY REASON students sometimes don't do well on exams is that they did not prepare well. That is the only reason. Anxiety has nothing to do with poor performance on exams. (Anxiety is caused by lack of adequate preparation.) Most students of every country - not just America - fear math (US)/maths (UK) because most math teachers don't know how to teach math in a step-by-step, interesting manner. Also, most students who plan to take non-science courses in college and university don't feel the need to learn math thoroughly (and rightly so perhaps), but learning to do high school math well can give everyone excellent training in logical thinking. Abraham Lincoln (who became a lawyer prior to becoming US President) said he liked doing geometry problems in his spare time because doing math trained his mind to think logically. I enjoy doing math enormously. No wonder My brain is the most powerful supercomputer in the universe. (Oops!)
