SAVI SHARMA LAUNCHES HER LATEST BOOK "THIS IS NOT YOUR STORY" AT THE DEHRADUN LITERATURE FEST 2017/Dehradun Literature Festival (41:46)

I posted this comment:

The main problem with Indians who want to become best-selling authors overnight is (1) they don't read a lot of excellent books in English on English grammar and composition and on the art of writing well (2) they don't read many excellent novels and books of non-fiction [in English] - BEFORE they RUSH to start writing to hopefully become very famous best-selling novelists. That is why fledgling Indian authors writing in English use such DRAB English in their speech and writing - boring prose, to put it bluntly. It is thanks to expert ghost-writers who edit and polish the manuscripts written in POOR English that the pathetic manuscripts get miraculously transformed into bestsellers like a frog getting transformed into a prince in fairy tales. If you want to stop writing trash, you must improve your English first and foremost and read lots of articles and books written in excellent English including the Bible which George Saintsbury calls "the fountain of pure English." The great Indian writer Khushwant Singh who wrote in English pointed out that Indian authors write very poor English because they haven't read the Bible. If mythological Meera got reborn, she could write moving poems and bhajans and prose in HINDI but her English would be very poor if she did not take the trouble to learn English thoroughly. Otherwise, she would keep on speaking and writing very poor, drab English. I regret that I write such fantastic English but My dhormopotnee's English is TERRIBLE and what hurts Me MOST is that she DOES NOT CARE and she is NOT INTERESTED IN IMPROVING HER TERRIBLE ENGLISH and as a matter of fact she is so chauvinistic that she told Me one day: "WHY should I learn English? Let others learn OUR mother tongue Bishnupriya Manipuri." Gosh! What a stubborn and illiterate consort I have: "Swarna Lakshmi" - of course, "Lakshmi" [reminds Me of the fable "Grapes are sour"] - not Saraswati ! - G
