COFFEE WITH BARBARA # 29 FEEDBACK TIME (YouTube)
One valuable thought that has crossed My mind after watching and hearing sweet and sincere Dutch gal Barbara (who speaks excellent English; don't think that your English is "poor" just because you have not learned big rare words like simulacrum - you don't have to learn big obscure words to show off your learning - actually, if you want to speak and write good English, always use simple English words as much as possible, occasionally using unusual words for the sake of variety to avoid the monotony of a succession of very simple words but never to show off in the hope of impressing your readers; your readers will NOT be impressed but will be made to feel inferior, as you were made to feel inferior when you thought you should have known the meaning of simulacrum and how to pronounce it; but using BIG WORDS to impress one's readers is a BAD IDEA and is always a sign of poor writing); I thought that if this sweet girl Barbara whose mother tongue is Dutch has the courtesy to speak in English, why don't I learn Dutch and other languages and start posting entertaining online posts in important non-English languages? WHY should I be PARTIAL to English and WHY should I continue to remain JUST an Anglophile? - Kishalay Sinha [G]
